Acts of Parliament

Establishing a Health Promotion Foundation through an Act of Parliament has a number of advantages:

  • The Foundation is independent but accountable;
  • It provides a sustainable base and structure for health promotion; and
  • Long-term investment in health promotion initiatives is possible.

There are a number of considerations that apply to any country that is establishing a Foundation through an Act of Parliament:

  • Contextual considerations: political climate, timing, content of Act;
  • Evidence required: strong evidence base, ramifications of legislation, expert information; and
  • Support for a Foundation: bipartisan, economic, community; and
